Junior School

I am sure you are all aware that, at the end of term, both Mrs Caughter and Mrs Idris are retiring after many years of commitment to the school and to the children in their care. We shall miss them very much but they have lots of plans for their retirement and I am sure you join with me in wishing it to be long, healthy and happy for them!
We have made an appointment of a senior teacher for the junior school, to start in September. Mr Lancashire is a science graduate who is looking forward to taking up this post and returning to this area from his current London base, where he teaches in a preparatory school. We also look forward to welcoming him, as I know all of you will. He will be teaching in the latter stages of Key Stage 2 and working with the other staff to promote curriculum progress and other initiatives.
So, some sadness and some excitement on the staffing front!
Arrangements in general regarding the disposition of year groups into classes will continue as now, with additional support from senior school specialists. This year, it has been good to enable Yr6 to have access to the senior school laboratories with lessons taught by the specialist staff in biology and chemistry. We hope to expand opportunities of this sort next year as well as develop extra-curricular activities.
Your children continue to thrive, I am pleased to say. Our experience yearly at the Entrance Assessment for Yr7 shows that the literacy and numeracy levels being achieved by our own youngsters as they approach the end of their primary school career, are strong when set alongside those of others coming from elsewhere. This should reassure you as it does me. Our commitment is to treat each one as an individual in all respects and we are fortunate to be able to do so.
We have a busy term ahead, with lots to do and progress to be made but I felt you would appreciate this information now.
