This year's National Poetry Day (the twenty-sixth!) took place on Thursday, with the organisers selecting 'Choices' as this year's theme: a concept which fits very well with our school community, our values, and the positive choices we encourage in our learners.

As well as in-lesson activities, the English Department celebrated with assemblies during which Mr Guerrero and Dr Tough gave a whistle-stop tour of the art form before exploring the works of 21st century social media poets such as Rupi Kaur and Brian Bilston.  Students and staff contributed their own 'insta-poetry' to a large display in the hall, with some creative and occasionally touching results.

We hope our activities will have inspired you to 'choose' to read more poetry before next year's celebrations!
